Nope, no special lighting needs are required to grow coraline algae. Excellent water parameters, and good calcium does it just fine
The intensity and degree of the light just determines the color of coraline.. although there is no real science to which combination makes which color coraline you get

I had a tank set up for a year and I didn't get any coraline until I got compact fluorescent lights for my coral. Before that I was using a 29w fluorescent light. I think light helps coraline growth.

back when i had 192w pc fixture with 1- 10k and antic 02, caroline wasnt that great. it hardly grew on the glass or on the rock. now that i have gotten 175w mh i have great caroline growth .it grows all over the place and is pretty thick
