Both LS and LR are really expensive.......I was only planning on getting one and then adding the other in a couple months.......I could buy regular sand and then let the LR harvest it or get LS and have a fish only tank for a couple months! Is the LR or LS cheeper at local salt water fish stores or is it the same as the price on line? Any suggestions?

Live Rock!!
You can use aragonite sand for your substrate and the LR will help with the biological filtration.
If you're going to try a reef set up, though, from what I've heard you will want LS as well. For fish only, the LR with aragonite is a good way to go.

Get the live rock !
Most any aragonite sand will be fine. Most.
You can skip the live sand - but I would not skip the rock.
I've never bought live sand ( well I did buy some Aragamax bagged sand - but was not too impressed )
But do whatever you can to at least get aragonite sand if at all possible.
ROCK ON !

Nope your rockers are still on. Given time live rock will "create" live sand, for that matter, if time is not an issue, a little chunk of live rock will seed both base rock and sand. Obviously, the more "live" rock you have the quicker the seeding and cycling process.
