When I buy LR, and go strait to my house, can I add it directly into my DT?
Im talking about 20 min. difference between the store and my house.

1. Is it cured?
2. Are you sure its cured?
3. Are there fish in the tank?
4. Is this the only LR, or is this an add-on?
5. Is it from a tank that had fish in it?

I am going go ahead and ask a question about a question, what if the rock is already cured? and your 100% positive it has been cured... and your tank is mature and going great?

Personally, I would only add small pieces of truly cured live rock into a big tank (unless you're cycling, that's another story). Anything other than that and you're asking for trouble. It's easy enough tor re-cure yourself, put some saltwater in a Rubbermaid tub, heater and powerhead, add LR and wait. Test regularly, if ammonia gets above 1.0 ppm do a water change. Wait until ammonia and nitrite drop to 0, do a water change, ghost feed for a day or two, and if ammonia doesn't spike again you're all set.

Yes, for sure. As long as it's cured. You can take it right from the tubs at your LFS and bring it home and put it right into your tank. Make sure you put it in some water though during the trip. Usually doesn't have to be completely submerged but in a bag with like 1/2 water or something. As long as the rock stays wet and moist you'll be good. You don't want the rock to 'dry out' in any spots. I added all 55lbs of my LR directly to my DT from my LFS, was awesome, no cycle.

Honestly, that is taking a bit of a chance, trusting that the LFS properly cured the rock, has it labeled properly, and that no customer has accidentally put uncured rock in a cured bin. Also, 20 minutes in a car in China might have a different affect on the rock than 20 minutes in a car in California.

It also depends on if you trust and know your lfs and how they operate. I have brought about 50 plus pounds or so home from my lfs, 25 min drive with no issues.

I would qt it for a couple reasons...one to make sure it is cured...two because unless there is a closed system (and it has been in there for 3 or 4weeks) the LR may have parasites like ich on it, carried over from other tanks...and three, it's just easy. Put in a a trash can with a powerhead and a heater loosely monitor for amonia and in three weeks you are good to go with no concern as to what may or may not happen.

Oh, LOL, I forgot this was the guy from China. Thats right, the one where the LFS guys laughed at him when he asked for RO water. Yeah I might be a little weary of LFS out there.

Tangofish, why would u trust that LFS, saying its 100% cured. but yet, they never heard or used ro water ?
So that would mean they use Tap or whatever they use for water source to cure it ? in that case, not only do you have to worry about ammonia die off but also all other impurities from the use of lower quality water.
This include but not limited to: phosphates, copper, nitrates, metals, toxins, lead, chlorine and many impurities/ect...
Just so you know, you are not the only one that buys lr. at the lfs.
Thats obvious.
that means they have a somewhat turnover rate on lr. you can prove it, simply ask for a water sample from lr holding tank, and test it..

when someone like u buys lr, the lfs orders new rock to replenish yours.
which in return they're having ammonia spikes constantly..(unless no lr has been bought or taken in/out of the lr holding tank for at least a month or so..
The reason why they call it cured, its cause they order it "supposly cure" from their supplier.
your best move , would be curing it yourself. and make sure u have high quality test-kits handy in the process...

I show them the RO thing in a catalogue that they had, and then is when the guys,(2), started laughting. And said to me that it wasnt necessary.
Well, I should ask them about the water that they use, I just tested it once for nitrites, and it was perfect,(Im talking about one of the times that I bought fish there).
But many things gets very difficult beause the language barrier, you know?
For example, the other day I went to buy a refractometer, and the thing is that the guy didnt understand what I was asking for, so he said "I dont have that", and I ask to another costumer (that thanksfully speaks engligh), to ask him in Cantonese, and in less than 10 sec. I had the refractometer on my hands...
So, sometimes not even the "monkeys language" helps much, LOL, thats what I been doing since Im leaving in China...I wish I could learn at least Mandarin,(considering that Cantonese is much harder)...someday.
Thanks for all the tips
