Okay, I'm probably asking some really stupid questions, but what the heck, this is still new to me!! I have a 46 gal bow front that was established 3/1/02. I have 37.5 lbs lr, 40lbs cc. Trates and trites are 0, amonia is 0, and ph little high at 8.6. I have a yellow tail damsel, 1 maroon clown, 1 royal gramma, and 1 arrowhead crab, & 3 snails. I have a pinkish color on the lr which I beleive is the "coral line" ? also plants growing from the lr that appear to me to be Kelp like in looks. It's covered pretty much of the top portions of the lr. Also have some bubble algae, and white branching growth starting to come out of some of the rocks. Not sure what it is. If I'm understanding what I have read on this site, that adding calcium will enhance the growth and coloration of the lr. Is this so? I purchased a test kit for calcium and also a liquid calcium concentrate in the event that the test shows that I am lacking it. The liquid is made by Kent, and specifies on the bottle that it should be added daily. Is this a normal procedure when adding calcium? What should I expect growth wise from lr?
I would eventually like to go to a reef system, and is this the way you start, using lr?
Also my lighting is HO, and is timed for being on eight hours a day.
Thanks for any input you all might have!!
