i have been looking at pics of tanks here and have noticed most everybodys lr is more clumped together than mine. i have mine more spread out with alot of little nooks. i am thinking this is just personal preferance but i am new and not sure. the tank has only been going for about five weeks now so there is not much of anything in it yet. i would like to add coral in the distant future will the way i have my lr work. thanks

I think its mostly personal preference, but you also have to factor in stability. personally I think your tank looks pretty sharp, but you have alot of rocks on there that look like they are itching to take a tumble. especially if you get some diggers in there. better off to make sure its completely stable now. before you start to put corals in there. hth.

x2, but id pull the rocks off the glass on the sides, and stability is the key. i think it looks great but if u want to keep it like that, id recommend drilling holes in the rocks and using acrylic rods to hold it all together. mr. x has a few threads about the process

I personally love your set up. I am not a big fan of running rods through your rocks simply because in a set up such as yours if you run into a algae problem you can easily remove the rock or rocks and hose them off. IMO I would put the rock solidly on the glass bottom of your tank so you will not incur any undermining by anything in your tank. What I did in my tank is build little tables out of pvc the depth of my substraight the legs of the “tables” are on the bottom glass but my rock sit in top of the tables the appearance is that the rocks are sitting on the substraight but they can not be undermined

I like the way it looks too. As mentioned above, stability is important, but the more open areas there are, the better water flow and more hiding spots. How big of a tank is that? 30? It's hard to tell from the pic. Do you have a powerhead?

It is hard to tell from the pic but can you walk around your tank if not you may want to consider a dark background to give the elusion of depth to your tank

i think that everyones else tank look more dense with rock than yours because most people here follow the 1 pound of rock per gallon "rule" if not more. it does not look like you have 75# of rock in your tank... if you did it would be harder to have as many big gaps and archways. you will be amazed at where fish can get into dont really need huge tunnels for them.

Its mostly personal ,but i also think it depends a bit on the fish you will be putting in.Some love the caves and ledges to hide and hover over.I have a 75 with about 80 or 90lbs. and i have 2 decent sized caves made on each side with the middle pretty open.In the end though i guess its just up to what you like

I agree on personal preference of how you want your tank to look.
I closed up my rock because of smaller fish need smaller caves to hide in. I also moved my LR away from the sides to get the mag float in.
As for backgrounds, Check out my before and after in my thread. Everyone has some good points.
