Hello!

I am new to the hobby and I was wondering, where in central Indiana can I get LR or an online place that's not as expensive as here. Or, where can I buy LR by the rock?
Also, I've heard at the LFS that if you buy dead coral, it will grow things in/on it and then it would be classified as LR. Is this true?
P.S. I don't have a tank yet,(I am getting 14G Bio-Cube SOON) but I was just wondering!

This is one of the best places to buy lr. It is against site rules to ask for competitor sites or links.

This site has great rock at good prices. You might find it a little cheaper some where else, but you KNOW it will be high quality here. Do not skimp on rock, lights or filtering and you will save money in the long run.

There is a HUGH LFS right in Indianapolis. They sell LR by the pound, rubble and nano size pieces.
Sounds like what you're looking for.
If you google "Indianapolis aquatics" I'd bet you would find it.

I can almost guarantee that you won't find it cheaper than on here at a LFS. All of them around me charge an average of $8 a pound! The only advantage of going to a local place is being able to pick the exact pieces that you want.

Do a search for Live Rock on google. There is alot of places that sell lr. I can tell you I have been on here for 2-3 months and I have had nobody complain about the live rock they purchased from here and it sounds like their live sand is unbelievable. When I made my Live Rock order saltwaterfish.com did not have any live sand in stock so I ordered from someone else. Well it smelled like rotten animal carcus. Wish they would of had sand in stock.

This place has similar pricing to SWF and offers more appropriate nanosized pieces. (nothing against SWF. I plan on ordering 3 boxes from here when by tax refund comes in) I wish SWF had a Nano pack.

Just remember too that if you obtain a large piece you can always break it down with a hammer.

No argument on the nano pieces. That's why I went to my LFS when I was setting up my nano. I'm amazed that SWF doesn't offer a "nano package" like several other online vendors. Hint, nudge, hello?

yes this place has "premium" stuff......i think they are in the middle of renovations to their warehouse though....

ANY TIME you have rock shipped to you it will come with die off due to being out of the water during shipping. All shipped rock MUST be recured.

if you are buying the rocks online and haven't cycled yet that's a great way to cycle....just put the rocks in and let it do it's thing

what if you have some good cured live rock you take out of a tank for like 5 mins tops, and add it to a different tank with live sand right from the bag? still cycle for 4 weeks?

No.
There are some organisms like sponges that can begin to die immediately when they are exposed to air, but realistically I think a few minutes out of water is fine.
