measured the amount of live sand in my 55 and it turns out that i only have about 3.5" of sand instead of 4". will this make a big difference?

to be able to cycle nitrate to nitrogen gases from my understanding it should be atleast 4inches but that is realy close it might not hurt anything but if you wanted to add to it then it wouldnt hurt things or add dead sand on top and the LS will populate the dead sand.

You can add 1/2" every 2 weeks or so to build up the bed. You will lose about a 1/2" every year or so due to the sand desolving over time. A nice new 1/2" layer of Southdown brightens thing up too.
