i have LS and Aragonite already, and i was gonna try to get some southdown to make a 6" DSB on my 30G tank, and i was wondering where should the southdown go, all the way on the bottom or in between and should i rinse it off or not?
Prompt help would b appreciated, i need to get going to the store soon......

I would mix the aragonite and Southdown together then add to tank and when that is all settled add the LS on top of everything else. Dont rinse the SD- there is no need to do that.

i have heard people say to add the water first...something about getting all the sand wet for some reason...I believe maybe it was bang Guy that said that but am not sure. I ran into the same problem....I just added some water....then added all the sand....removed the water that was already in there...and then very carefully added new water....that southdown is a MESS when adding water and being new. You have to try very hard not to cloud it up...If time is not a problem then just mix the salt water in the tank and then add all the sand...it will be extremely cloudy and you will get some foam at the top...When you add live rock it will clear up a lot.
I put aluminum foil down on the sand and then added salt water VERY slowly to make sure not to cloud the water up too much.
Hope this helps.

If you haven't added the new sand yet. You might want to let it culture in a rubbermaid tub for a week.
It will help the sand become live much faster, as well as reduce cloudiness in your aquarium.
I just did it myself this past week. Bang has a thread on it in this forum.

Warlock, i saw on another post that you were mad that i suggested not to clean your Southdown before you put it in. The reason i said that i also asked the same question the other day as i was adding my sand in a new tank and was told by several people not to clean it. Sorry.

Oh no no no, Beckzilla, i'm not and wasn't mad at you, it's just advice. WHat you did worked for you and it worked for me too. The tank is clearer now, I can see the bottom, yeeeeeeeeeey.
Sorry if i came out looking like an ass and made it seem like i was mad at you. The way i see it, it's my responsability and what i do are my own actions, so THANKS, honestly.
Please don't be mad, cause i'm not......................
