LS question

Can someone tell me when LS became the preferred substrate? I got out of the SWA hobby around '94 and at that time I had never heard of it.

i dont know when people started using it sorry, but i will give u some reasons why people use it
people use it to have a more natural tank with everything that u would find on the oceanall the little critters living in it, its a great biofilter with its anerobic and aerobic bacteria liveing in the DSB which help to reduce nitrate in the water naturally

I know the benefits of the sand. I want to know when people started using it (not early pioneers, but when it became the preferred substrate for mainstream SWA's). I'm assuming it was within the past 10 years.

According to a post that I found under reefkeepers in usenet, it appears that around 1996-97 is when it started to gain popularity, although was still in the "experimental" stage. The post was archived in september of 1997, so I can only wager at exactly what time the post was written.
