Hi!
Today I was fishing along the Halifax river along the shore for Flounder (caught none...) and noticed in a little puddle a tad-pole-like animal. Instinctively, I reached down and grabbed it... So I went back to my Tackle box and got one of my Ziplocs I carry just in case something like this happens... When I got home I set up his own little 2.5g pico for the time being... (10g on the way! ;)) and did some water checks... Found that the specific gravity of the river is 1.008! Did a small water change on the 125, and diluted the water and was all set... So after about an hour and a half or so of acclimation, I put him in. Under his stress colors he is translucent!!! I then left for my Grandfather's and got back a little bit ago. He found a hiding spot under a piece of dead coral and got his color back! Turns out, he is a BABY Oyster Toadfish (Opsanus tau)!! When I say baby, I mean like, 3/4" long AT MOST... My plan is to try and feed him frozen (krill first, then mysis and such) then if he won't accept it, baby guppies... I have one question here, how should I go about bringing the specific gravity up to 1.023 or so? Thanks!! And enjoy the pics!

That's a good point! Next time I go I'm gonna have to look for more... Haha thanks! I'm gonna set up a 30 with stuff ONLY from the Halifax... The substrate will be the muck from there, the rocks will be hunks of oysters and such... I'll start a thread whenever this comes to life! ;)

Thanks!!
Your right! Based on the pictures in the link and the fact that while in the bag it seemed to be able to cling to the side... (shoulda known...) I'd say it is http://www.fishbase.org/summary/Spec...y.php?id=3079# any opinions?
I guess I'll try the same thing to get it to eat but first I'll try some ORA pellets... Nevertheless it's still cool!

Well, I did a search on both Clingfish and Hyposalinity... I found that the Clingfish is also known as the "Saltwater Plecostomas"... And since mine only gets 9cm, he will be transferred to my 20g Nano Mixed reef! The Hypo plan is that since he is already in 1.009, I will begin to bring it up tomorrow. Each day I'll bring it up 0.003 so that would mean, 8/2-1.012, 8/3-1.015, 8/4-1.018, 8/5-1.021, 8/6-1.024! Then into my reef which the other day was 1.026! Opinions??

We call that a "local tank" when you do that. Don't need to use the "muck" that we have here. Instead find a spot with good enough sand/shell mix. Keep your flow rates up and enjoy. I find file fish, Atlantic tangs, and many other things in the inlet. Atlantic pygmy angels twice over a 3 year period.
