im confused...is it good or bad?
should i remove this algae?
the tank has been set up for about 2 months now. it never cycled. i put in 100lb of established rock from a 45G tank that i had running with fish in it. i didnt use any sand or water form the 45g when i started my 90. after i saw it wasnt going to cycle i started to add the fish that were still in the 45.
i dont have any coral, its flowr.
im not sure what to do about this aglea...is it good or bad?
its in about a 2.5 or so gallon container. prob about 9l x 5w x 6h... just a guess

while red calcerous algae is good that is not whats in that container, what you have peckhead, is red slime, remove as much as you can and go throught the regular motions for getting rid of slime, increased flow shorter lighting and so on and so forth.

Anyone have any close-up photos of red calcareous algae? Do you think it's in the FAQ? I'm going to check.

No, there isn't a FAQ on algae. Too Bad. There is a thread in there "Advise for New Hobbyists" where Thomas712 describes some general algae types, but missing is CORALLINE, and CALCAREOUS, and there are no pictures whatsoever.
Who volunteer's to put something together??
Did MudplayerX's snail FAQ get put in the FAQ section?

i took out most of the red slime. how come this is growing my my sump? should i not run my lights all the time for the fuge? and is it possible for it to spread into my dt? i have a foam pad on my mag9 return

its most likley lack of flow in the sump so it has a better foot hold. excess nutrients can settle in low flow areas, so it grows their first, yes it can spread to your display. Red slime is porbably one of the most frusterating battles out there.

Honestly.... I dont know. I have unsuccesfully been kind of battling it for months. havent really been trying all that hard. I know my flow is good my parameters are fine and still it grows....... I just suck it out. I am currently doing some kind of expiriments on it, in a lazy sort of way, and making obsevations here and there. its really incredible (and durable stuff) check out a thread called "red slime obsevations, maybe usefull maybe not" and "unbelivable, redslime related" and you'll see my observations on it.

Yes the picture you showed is red slime. Since you sucked out most of it, I would try alternating the lighting schedule on the fuge. Your algae doesn't need 24/7 lighting. Have the light turn on about a 1/2 hour before the main lights in the tank turn off. This should help.
