Macro Shots

Hi, I bought a Canon PowerShot S200 digital cam on boxing day, and Ive been trying forever to take any sort of close ups... usually it ends up focusing in on the background and the subject turns out very blurry... if anyone has this camera, is it just not sufficient for quality close-ups or am I shooting wrong. also, what is the best ambient lighting for taking such pictures? thanks,
Drew :)

I don't have that cam but I did buy a Kodak.
My cam you push the button down part way and it focuses automatic. It does get blurry w/ the macro so I backup alittle and it gets better.
I turn off the flash and angle it to the glass, it comes out ok. The tank lights are enough for me. (175 MH).
I just can't seem to get them bigger on the site.:(

I have a DX 4330. Does macro, film w/ voice, lighting effects. I like it. 3.1 meg pix.
