Mag 7 Question

I bought a mag 7 to replace a rio(junk). I noticed there is no type of griping on the bottom of the pump, rubber or suction cups. Is it noisy when placed in a sump? Does it move around not being secured?

It is not that noisy, but I placed mine on an old tupperware lid which made it very quite. Mine does not move around.

Neither of my mag drives move around and both are very quiet without being placed on anything. I have a Mag 7 running my skimmer and a Mag 9.5 as my return on my 58 gallon tank.

kpogue-
I posted a thread about this the other day. Now, do you find that the Mag7 is just way too powerful for the Nautilus???
I tested both the Mag7 and the Rio2100 on my Nautilus TE and the Rio worked so much better. But I DON'T want to use the RIO!!!
Do you use a ball valve between the Mag7 + Nautilus???

when I tested it without a valve, the Mag7 shot the water so high, it came out the air intakes at the top of the Nautilus....
I really don't get it if the Rio2100 and Mag7 are rated about the same GPH.

Thanks for the info - I was just curious as to others' exp w/them. I'll guess I'll find out mine when I put it in!

Hey thats a real good idea , I should of thought of that !
I can't sleep at nites because my mag 9 humms so loud in the stand . so I tryed everything , but the other nite I went to my store I own a hardware store and took a rubber knee pad , which is shape to fit around your knee. Well it fit perfect around the bottom of the pump, now I can sleep . I find glass sumps no matter vibrate . by the way do you have a full pic of your sump design.
thanks

I hevn't hooked the mag up as of yet, so I don't know how powerful it is. Although it is rated the same as the rio. If I run into problems I can always (as you suggested) put a valve inline or extend the tubing from the skimmer to the pump. I guess I'll find out this weekend!

HEY K.....
I ALSO USE THE MAG-DRIVE #700 ON MY KENT NAUTILUS
SKIMMER WIDE OPEN....THAT IS THE RECOMMENDED PUMP
BY KENT MARINE FOR THIS SKIMMER....WORKS GREAT...
VERY QUIET AND IT DOESNT NEED ANYTHING TO SIT ON...
ALSO, I DONT USE ANY PRE-FILTERS THAT ARE SUPPLIED
WITH THE MAG-DRIVES AS I FEEL THEY ARE NOTHING
MORE THAN NITRATE MAGNETS...I DO USE THE LITTLE
PLASTIC PIECE THAT IS INSIDE THE PRE-FILTER TO
ENSURE THAT THE PUMP DOES NOT GET STUCK ONTO THE
OTHER PUMPS IN THE SUMP DUE TO THE SUCTION FROM
THE END OF THE PUMP.....
GOOD LUCK WITH IT....

I use it. It helps to prevent bubbles caused by the outflow. I just clean it once in a while.

HEY ALL.....
YES, I USE THAT ONE....WITHOUT IT, IT WOULD SOUND
TOO LOUD AND CAUSE BUBBLES TO RETURN TO THE
DISPLAY TANK...IF THERE WAS SOMETHING ELSE TO
REPLACE IT WITH THAT WOULD WORK JUST AS GOOD,
I WOULD GET IT CAUSE THAT SPONGE IS ALSO A
NITRATE MAGNET....
YOU KNOW THAT THE SKIMMER SPONGE SHOULD BE
SUBMERGED HALF WAY INTO THE SUMP WATER AS
THIS DRAMATICALLY REDUCES THE BUBBLES AND THE
SPLASHING SOUND, RIGHT?
ALSO, A LITTLE TRICK....
IF YOU LOWER THE WATER IN THE CLEAR COLUMN OF THE
SKIMMER,TO ABOUT 1/2"-1" BELOW THE BLACK COLLAR THAT
THE CUP SITS ON, THE SKIMMER WILL ONLY PRODUCE THE
FILTHIEST GUNK INTO THE SKIMMER CUP INSTEAD OF
JUST SO-SO DIRTY WATER....
REGARDS...
