MAG FLOAT? Glass vs Acrylic

I just purchased a mag float and got home to see that it says glass only. How do I know if my tank is glass or acrylic? Can I use the magnet on either one or will it hurt the tank if my tank isn't glass?

Acrylic scratches easier than glass so you wouldn't want to use the glass scraper on an acrylic tank. Does your tank have silicone seals?

Pardon me for jumping into someone's thread, but are the bowfront (curved) tanks acrylic or glass? I've been using my magfloat on it for about 6 months now, not really caring!
Typical engineer . . . not reading the directions/warnings on the magfloat!

They come in both glass and acrylic. Do the corners where the front glass meets the side glass have silicone sealant, if so it is glass (I think all acrylics are seamless). Do you remember how much it weighed, glass is almost twice the weight of acrylic. A 72 bow AGA weighs 91 lbs. (sounds too low to me but thats what the AGA booklet says).
