I think they are good. IMO any submersible will heat the water up more that an external. I use an extra 9.5 in my 32 gal salt mixing can and it heats the water up pretty well over a day or two.

Quiet? Can be. Mine has a noticable hum but that is because of my plumping hits on the sump wall and vibes a bit.
Cool? Mine increases tank temp by 2 degrees.
Run well? No breakdowns or bad starts in over 3 years.

I have a mag 24 for my sump return to tank and it was quiet for a while then got loader, i tried cleaning it and found that it had a couple of groves in the magnet part of the impeller, i think thats what is causing the noise. I have a new impeller on order and should be in soon.
I have had no heat issues with my mag drive 24 (2400gph) but not to say you wont? Seems to be mixed reviews on heat?
Even with my halides on my tank temp is 78.

Mine is quiet.
But when I switched from a Rio 1700+ to a Mag 7 for my return, temp went up about 1.5 - 2 degrees.
I really like the pump though.
