magnet affecting heater?

I use a magfloat magnet to clean my tank glass. When not in use, I let it stick to the glass right next to(touchng) my hang in heater and hang in mercury thermometer. Will the magnet affect the temp readings on the heater or thermometer? Will it affect the performance of the heater? Any advice would be appreciated,
Adam

Yes to both. Place the magnet somewhere else. I also advise you to use a thermometer that's not mercury based.

A glss thermometer in a tank has a high probability of breaking over time. If you want a floating thermometer that's fine, but get one that's alcohol based (red indicator vs silver).
Mercury is highly toxic and a drop of mercury in your tank would be very very bad.

Ok, my thermometer has red fluid in it. I just assumed it was mercury, but i guess it is ok then. Sorry for the trouble. Will a magnet affect this type of thermometer? Thanks,

just a question, i know mercury is very toxic but is that only when injested? mercury by nature is a very heavy metal so much so that i saw a program in which they floated a hammer on it.
now with that said would the mercury just ball together and sink to the bottom of the tank? just wondering?

Yes, of course it would. From there it would slowly disperse, very slowly but it really doesn't take much.
