Magnet Cleaners

Will a real good magnet cleaner remove coraline algae from plexi-glass? Will it scratch the glass?

They work great on glass tanks, IME, for nuisance algae removal. A couple swipes and its bye bye algea. The coralline is a little tougher if it has been there awhile. I use an old credit card an brute force to get that stuff off. But if you do regular glass cleanings the corralline should not have a chance to get a good foot hold, and the magnetic cleaner works good.

MaroonClownFan, That's my problem. I had back surgery 4 weeks ago and the glass on my 125g is almost all coraline algae. It will be another couple of weeks before I can even begin touch it.

Try a credit card.... If you press hard enough it will also smooth out small scratches if any....

An old credit is the best method I have used for removing coralline off the front glass.
Its a good arm workout!!!
Hope your back gets better....good luck......MCF

I just bought one of those magnet cleaners and it has two surfaces, a soft pad side and a scratchy side that reminds me of the "hook" side of velcro. I just used the soft side and it worked great. I would imagine the scratchy side is for tougher algae.

I've never really found a need to clean my magnets but I wish someone would come up with a good cleaner for aquarium walls;)

on my magnet cleaner the soft side is what touches the outer glass, the velcro one touches the inner,

I was thinking that that was cool that you have a soft and rough side and then I realized that mine does to and the soft side goes on the outside. :D ;)

you risk scratching more with the rough on the outside- the felt on the soft side would only be able to clean diatom algae- anything else would have to use the abrasive felt material or the plastic made for cleaning
