Magnum 350 and Diffuser question

Hello. We are just starting our tank out tonight. Yay!
My question though, is that we have the Magnum 350 Filter system, and it looks like the Diffuser(?) is not long enough so that it goes all the way into the water.
We've filled the tank up about as far as it will go, but the diffuser just sits at water level.
My question is, is it supposed to be underwater?? Or does it mix up the topwater?
Sorry for the dumb question. :) Still learning.
Thanks.

what do you mean by diffuser, the opening that puts water back into the tank or the one that takes water out? If it is the opening that puts water back into the tank when I don't think it matters if it is underwater or out of the water. Mine is under the water to create a current, if the tubing isn't long enough you can always get extensions.

Ah, ok. Yes, I'm talking about the water return to the tank. The manual called it a diffuser, so I thought that's what it was. lol
Anyway, thank you for your post. I'll see if I can dig up an extension tube.

I know it is only a few inches long but how can it not be under water? The bent part of the U should sit on the fram of the tank.
If it is not under water you may get bubbles or excess salt creep.
If you do add an extension be careful because that diffuser can break eaisily. I know.

I have the same filter, and don't have any problem with the diffuser being under water. Are you sure its set up right?

Strange.. I went back and looked at the manual, and it says that the elbow for the diffuser should be under water.. I'll have to go home and look at it again because for whatever reason it won't sit that way.
Could I have it installed wrong? Most likely.. lol
Thank you all for your help!!

The reason is too get more surface to air exchange taking place that may not happen with that diffuser being more submerged, just a guess anyways.

I have the same filter aswell that came as a kit with 2 biowheel's. If you got the same thing and just ain't choosing to hook it up, i'd suggest you'd reconsider or if your lfs sells the hook up i'd suggest you buy it.
