I am thinking about purchising a Majestic angel. Do these fish do well in Captivity?
I have a 90 gallon F/O tank with one puple tang spotted hawk fish ;)

Hello, and welcome to the board!!! Where are you from in IL. Anyways, I have a Majestic, but I would strongly recommend you get a juv. one that hasn't changed color yet. The juvs. adapt to prepared food more easily, and aquarium life in general. If you get a juv. and have great water conditions then they do great. It is best to use a protein skimmer with these type of fish. They may be shy at first, but soon come around and eat like pigs and they are a long lived fish, living up to 10 years in the aquarium, and eventually will eat out of your hands. Very nice fish!!

Be sure your tank has been running at least 6 mos. I bought a juv. and it died of no visible cause. All I can figure out is the tank wasn't ready. and watch them carefully, the tang will probably pick on the majestic at first. HTH

My Majestic is about 4 years old now and was bought as a Juv in 97. It has not grown very large (compared to its Blue Moon Angel tankmate) maybe 4 to 5 inches so far. It is very easy to care for and bothers no one else in its tank. The Moon does chase the Majestic around sometimes but does not seem really trying to catch it so there has been no problems of biting or nipping in the 4 years they have been with each other.

Thanks for all the replys,I went and purchesed him this morning was eating very well at the fish store. The Purple tang
has not bothered him all day. He has
already stated to eat in my systom. fed him formula 1 at noon and lifeline green around six. Ate both times. However he is swimming very fast around the tank doing laps. Nobody is chasing him. Is this just him getting used to things. will he calm down in a few days.
;) :)

Karl he's probably just exploring his new digs. If you haven't already, turn the lights off and let him chill out until tomorrow AM.

Karl; The first couple days are the important ones for a new fish. The light idea is good and also altho tempted don't overfeed it. The fact it ate right off is good now just get it on a normal feeding cycle. It will settle down shortly. Avoid fast movements in front of tank for a few days so as not to startle it.
