Major Move

So, we are probably going to be moving from NC to Minnesota (BURRR) in the next month or so. (finishing touches on job acceptance)
and we have a 125g and 24g Nano.
We've got some great corals, 2 clowns, hawkfish and lr with a ton of coralline,etc....
I do not want to sell what i've got and rebuild/recycle both my tanks when we get there, if I can help it!
Has anyone ever done a cross country, sorta, move and been able to keep their livestock?
If so, how'd you do it?
Any ideas, suggestions would be very much appreciated!!!
Or, should I just give everything to lfs and have them ship after cycle (expensive!)

thanks!

are you driving everything up or what? you can always give me the stuff and i'll keeop them safe for you till youre done,hahaha..and lucky for you i'm on the way!!!!
i have moved a 75, but only 3-4hr drive...i just put em in large coolers and did fine..tapped some heat packs to the inside top, kept nice and warm in there...then i left the sand in the tank with a bit of water to keep it damp...then took a garbage bag, and stretched it on top and taped it around the sides to make it stay....not sure if thats a good idea for such a large tank if its too heavy, but you could put it in buckets i'm sure...may want to be careful when putting it all back in though

lol - nice try!
the 'tentative' plan is that we will have movers who will move the rest of the house but that'll we'll rent a uhaul trailer, or something, and take the tanks and the dogs and we'll drive.
We've thought about putting everything in 35g trash cans and throwing pumps in each to keep the water flowing, plug them into a converter in the back, or something and doing water changes along the way. The other thought is to have my lfs hold what's 'sensitive' (like plate coral, anemone, etc..) and then ship it to me overnight once I get there and get the tanks back up
I don't know though - that's a long drive!
was just looking to see if anyone had done anything like this before and if so, if it worked!

I moved 1500 miles last yr, and sold everything to the person who bought my house, mainly because it was an in wall. But we really didn't want to try to move everything anyway cause it took 3 days yo make the road trip, and when we arrived at the new home, setting up a tank first thing wouldn't have been the easiest thing to do, and we wouldn't have wanted to buy any water from a lfs we didn't know yet either. I locate one in the same town i was moving to and called and asked if we could ship our stuff and him hold it for a week or 2 till we got set up and they said no. So we bagged the idea and did a nice upgrade when got settled. The new owners who bought our setup offered us the asking price if we would leave the tank and livestock instead of us closing up the hole in the wall like we planned to do. We took the offer cause it was 5.000 more then we expected to get anyway, so we used every penny for a new setup, it was like it was free

You can do the move, but i am sure the last thing you will have time for is setting up a tank, but it can be done.
