You must, most of the time, treat the whole tank once you have introduced a fish with ich. Ich spreads rapidly. Hyposalinity is too dangerous in an entire tank, and frankly, i dont like it even in hospital tanks.
"Reef Safe Kick-Ich is a water treatment for the control of ich (a.k.a. "whitespot disease") in marine and freshwater aquaria. It has been scientifically formulated to eliminate the free swimming, infectious stage of the ich life cycle while being safe for all freshwater and marine aquaria. Kick-Ich has a long shelf life at room temperature and is supplied in easy to use, self-dosing bottles. Safe for all fish, corals, invertebrates and macro algae, as well as the facultative anaerobes and nitrifying bacteria essential to biologic filtration."
I have to agre 100% with this I have used this a couple times myself and keep a jug on hand great stuff reef safe no problems with stars fish or anything great stuff try it you will like it.

Yep, if you are going to use a reef safe medication, Kick Ich or ChemMarin Stop Parasite is the way to go. They are the only two products that I would trust in a tank with inverts and coral and live rock.

Wow, I would like to thank all of you for your advice and input! I was away for a bit and surprised at the number of responses during that time. Well anyway, the longnose seems to be okay now and I will be treating the tank this weekend. Another question?
What is it about the yellow longnose butterfly, or any butterfly for that matter, that makes them not reef safe? Is it the eating of tubeworms and the like?. I haven't bought any live rock, just lace rock from Utah for now, but plan to add some live rock in a few weeks.
Again, thanks for the support! This is a great site for place for messages and the like.

With butterflies, it is hit or miss. I have a copperband, and it hasnt picked on anything at all.
But some will pick coral, tubeworms, aptasia (which no one minds) etc...

Well he has eaten the little tubeworms that he finds in the tank, especially around the circulation system. Not a big deal there considering that there is a huge suply of them ijn the filtration unit below. Thank you for the help! And the longnose is doing fine now, so much personality with the little bugger. He is the funnest fish in the tank right now...
