Does anyone know what would be a good food to feed a Mandarin Dragonet Goby? I know it says they like copepods off LR.I have also heard they like live worms(what kind) & live brine shrimp. Any suggestions?

not to be rude but my only suggestion and only way it will survive longterm is if you have a decent size tank with alot of live rock and alot of reproducing pods.. other than that i have never saw one eat anythign else..they may eat brine shrimp( no value to them, will die if they only eat brine) and as you said worms,, but they would be hitchkers on live rock

If you can get one to feed on things other than pods.I wouldn't feed brine, I would try mysis. Good luck!!! mine only eats pods

I do have alot of LR and sum corals(button polyps, assorted zoos, mushroom coral .green ricordea,& a few others (not sure).Just have a 30g hex ,but only have 2 clowns ,2 gobys, cleaner shrimp, sally lightfoot crab, several snails, & hermits, and 1 conch. No idea what kind of worms huh?Ill have to ask the LFS where i got him what theyve been feeding him. Been giving him frozen brine & mysis. Just thought id check & see if anyone knew any other thing.

They sell pods on this site: https://www.saltwaterfish.com/site_11...ot_parent_id=4
Good price! If you have a refug. to stock that would help. And they are not that expensive. I also found another site that sells them and they have great info about culturing them as well. Do a search for culturing copepods. I plan on getting a mandarin goby within 8 months. I want my tank to be established for about a year first. And I do have a refug. which I read is crucial. They are the reason I started this hobby, I find them amazingly beautiful!!!

You can have some of my Pods. When I come home everyday there are thousands of pods spread all over my glass. My rocks are even worse. Your goby's are also eating your pods.

This might be a dumb question but here goes. How do i know if i have (any) or even enough pods? I cant see them like u described in yur tank. I would think i have sum cuz i have LR (not a whole lot) But like i said i really dont see them. SWF.com have some (i seen) is that the kind i would want. I guess i should have researched a little more on my Mandarin Goby before i got him, but i saw him and fell in love. Hes beautiful!!!!

If your lucky you might catch one in either your power head or filter. when ever you sift your sand or move your LR they flip out and try to find a new place to hide.

these are a few they are really small though. some are larger but typical ones that you will see look like little fleas scurring across the rocks and sand.

no there's no secret in a bottle.but if you don't have enuf pods in tank and you rarely see him eating any other foods then he will starve soon!

I would have to agree unless you absolutely know that it is eating frozen foods if he is only eating live foods a 30 gallon tank wont be able to support him long. I have one in my 58 and the only reason that I do is I know for a fact he eats frozen brine and mysis shrimp if it wasnt for that I would have left him at the LFS.

Well when i got him the lfs said they had him for about 2 wks and all they were feeding him was mysis, so i know he eats that. He would have died if he wasnt eating for that long dont cha think? But since then i have been talking to others and they told me he would have to eat pods or he would eventually die. Does yours eats only shrimp or pods also?

mine eats mysis, brine, and pods he goes nuts when I add mysis to the tank gobbling up almost as quick as I add it to the tank.

So u actually see him eat? Well mine is still fairly (i wk) so he still hides behind rocks ,even when he sees me coming into the room hes gone! I hope he gets outta that. i usually stand and watch when i feed to see if all is eatin. hes the only one i really cant see.

They are very slow eaters, thats another problem with them . Eveb when they eat prepared foods, alot of times more aggressive eaters won't give the mandrins a chance to eat unless you over feed your tank, then you have other issues. I would have asked to see it eat in the lfs cause i really wouldn't go by what they tell you it is eating. Anyone can throw some food in a tank and tell you thats what they are eating.
It takes mandrins some times months to starve to death. And even though its not really nutrious for them feed it live brine shrimp until you figure out what to do down the road. Maybe try some mysis mixed in and you could get lucky like MikeTX and yours will eat frozen foods down the road. Mine will eat live brine, but no frozen at all. Might try mixing live and frozen together again myself and see what happens. I did this with my scooter blenny (pod eater also) and now he eats frozen as well as live shrimp. Good luck.

then honestly he probably isnt getting anything to eat. mine from day one would hide in the rock work and grab pieces as they floated by him.
he is probably eating the pods and stuff in the tank but unless you have a tom of them he will go through them quickly mine is going on 2 weeks now I guess and is just now starting venture farther from the rockwork alittle at a time.

Can you send me some of your pods and I will send you some blue mushrooms? Or even hairy ones.
