Even prepared foods would not provide an adequate supplement to the diet their bodies are built for, IMO.
I would like to add to the original question though. If there was a fuge with more than enough pods in it to provide the DP with an adequate supply of pods for the mandarin, then would it survive?

It is definitely a plus if it will eat prepared foods, but as was stated above it will still need to get most of it's dietary needs from the pods.

I believe Birdy and the others are refering to Copepods - little life forms that only establish themselves in a tank that has been up and running for awhile.
i got a mushroom rock at 10 weeks and it musta had lots on there cuz they sure spread throughout my tank quickly. They are small, whiteish almost look like little aphids. Watch your substrate and LR for them. Good Luck!

Not in a 30 gallon with a limited supply of pods.
Copepods, amphipods, isopods, and a few other varieties. Most of the time the ones that are crawling on the substrate are the amphipods. Like these.

Once my tank was crawling with thousands of them but the population died down and I barely see them anymore. They look like lice. I think one of their nicknames is sea lice. My fish went to town on them.

I used to have a countless number of them, but then I bought a yellow watchman goby, now I see maybe one a night.

It means that on this board we do not have the option to private message others. Why it's like this I have no clue.

I was just moving some LR around in my tank. Only been going for 1 week now. I saw one of those amphopods? Are they ok or does this mean something bad or good for a new tank?
