Can I keep 2 green mandarin one 4" one tiny 1 inch, in the same 125 reef tank ? I would be moving the tiny one from my 65 fowlr to my 125 RT.

if u hv lots of live rocks and lots of pods, then housing two is possible in a big tank. but personally i wouldnt.

I had my mandarin for about a year. Sadly he moved on to the big fish bowl in the sky a couple weeks ago. I have a 125 gallon with plenty of live rock, but no fuge. I think that may have been the cause. Although now that he is gone, I have several copepodes hanging out on the glass. Maybe he was not a good hunter.

You shouldn't mix two of the same type of mandarin fish if they're the same ---. You might be able to get away with it in a 125g but IMO I would only put in a second one if it was a male and female. The males have the much more elongated front dorsal fin while the females have a much smaller one.
You should be able to mix the green and a spotted mandarin together regardless of --- which is what I would do because I think they are both equaly stunning for different reasons.

I actually think you would be better off mixing 2 of the samew species of the same --- rather than 2 of the same --- of a different species. I have heard the Spotted and Psychodelic ones fight if housed togther. I have no experience with this, but I have heard it from both of my LFS owners. I would think a 125 would be OK to house 2 and that they would have enough food if you have good amount of live rock.

yes you can but make sure you look at them often to see that they are not getting skinny and if they are your going to have to get lots of pods fast.

I would still strongly suggest not putting 2 of the same sexed mandarins in... they will fight and from everyone I've heard they WILL fight. The best way to have 2 in one tank is for a male/female pair. The next best is to have one green and one spotted.

I have just spent 15-20 mins re-researching and every online info on mandarin fish say the same species 2 males WILL fight

My questions:
How old is the reef tank?
How much live rock?
Do you have a refugium?
What is the gender of the one in the reef now? And what is the gender of the one in the 65g?
If they are the same gender....females ok, two males no!
I have a very established 125 reef tank with well over 175 lbs of live rock, and have a pair of green spotted mandarins with a very "full" refugium. They get lots of pods and will eat frozen mysis, and an occasional treat of brine.
When I put the little female in about 3 months ago the male did beat her up somewhat. He is 2 yrs old and very chubby, she is a baby...only about an inch and a half. He would clamp down on her and not let her go anywhere for the longest time. Thankfully that lasted less than a week. They now swim together, and hunt together. I would have hated to see what he would have done to another male. He found her almost immediately after putting her in the tank even with all that rock to hide in. I put her in on the opposite side of the tank even.

I wouldn't do it. I had a scooter blenny and a green mandrin together for about 6 months, both females, until the mandrin began trying to kill the scooter. I had to remove the scooter because she stopped eating, seemed to stressed to hunt for pods and she ended up dieing a week after i put her in my other tank. I also saw a green mandrin kill a smaller one at the LFS.

There is plent of copepods I have 200 lb's of rock and introduced 1000's at a time from a farm and they grow and multiply the mandarin has been in for over a year and he is huge like 4+ inches how big do they get ? the other Mandarin I have with some triggers Picasso tiny and niger tiny and the mandarin is tiny so far so good..would the mandarin be better off in the 125 reef or one day a hungry trigger might snack on him ? the question is not is ther enough food in either tanks but would the large mandarin pick on the small mandarin...so far i decided so leave him in the 65 and leave the large one in the 125.
