I would not recomend a mandrin in a 30 gallon at all. If you can get about 75-100 lbs of LR in your 75 it should be OK. But generally only if the tank has been established for awhile. They need lots and lots of pods to eat. That would be just for 1 mandrin. I don't think you would have enough food source for 2

Now your damsel is chewing up your mandrins fins

Don't waste your time on this guy, he does what he wants, I adviced him to take the mandrin back on another thread, he has 15 lbs of LR in an unestablished tank with no fuge, now he wants to add another one :scared: His damsel is killing it, and he wants to get another one for it to torment
we got a brickwall here

Your lfs only wants to make money so he will sell you a mandrin, he could care less if it lives or dies
No one says you have to listen to the advice we give you, so why ask? No one else on here is going to advise you to keep this fish, bottled pods won't be enough, and there is nothing inabout your tank thats in that fishes favor, and now you are thinking of getting another, if your lfs says thats ok, he should be shut down! We have nothing to gain by telling you can't keep this fish long term, so listen to the guy who says you can do it, you are only going to believe what you want to any how, I am done with this thread
The only thing i want to do now is protect that fish, and i can't, but at least i tried

I don't usually intervein when people are bashing each other, but I feel I must in this instance, so please hear me out. I too have posted that the mandarin would not benefit from staying in his tank with only 15lbs of live rock. I believe him when he states that maybe we have a point. So, I am hoping that "we can all get along."
He says he is new to this and his lfs has offered to help, yes, they are just wanting a sell. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt that he will return the mandarin and wait until his new tank is mature.
Feeding live pods from the bottle is a kind gesture, the mandarin will appreciate it, but will not last long. Only because they will be devoured long before they can multiply. At $20.00 a bottle, at least this how much they want here, this is an expensive adventure.
I am coming to your defense, I only hope that you think real hard on the long term outcome of this mandarin. I wish you well in this hobby, and sometimes we hear things that we just don't want to. This is what makes me want to come to your aid, so to speak. I would hate for you to get a negetive feeling from such a rewarding hobby.

I agree that not all people will take the advice. They wait to hear what they want to hear... and if they want something bad enough, they'll get it, whether or not it is a good idea or not.
But flaming is nothing good to do... We should all be happy, here!

FYI unless you can verify ur LFS info, dont buy it, thy try to sell u things its their buisness, we hav eno bioas in trying to sell u stuff, so id advise taking ur afdvice from here. When i get advice from my LFS, i re research it here, and now i suficiently trust my LFS not to try to sell info.

I didn't believe he was going to take the mandrin back cause after myself and others told him he should, he posted a thread about getting another one! And yes I was hard on him about that cause i love these fish and was trying to shame him into returning it. I was angry about it.
So take him back and someday you can set up that 75 and put in a fuge in, then you can get 2 if you harvest enough pods.
As far as the butterfly. I won't flame you, did enough of that over the mandrin
DO as much research about this fish before you waste more money on a fish you can't keep, but don't ask your lfs ok? He doesn't get my vote on one you can trust after telling you that you can keep a mandrin.
