Mandarine fish question?

There are two types of manderines that I know of,The common one that we all know about. And one called(sorry in advance for spelling) The psycodelic fish. The psyco is poisonous. Is the common also?????? STEVE

I've got a mandarin fish and I haven't noticed anything on his skin. I'm glad you mentioned that psycadelic fish have a poison on their skin because I was looking at one at my lfs. I searched all my books and haven't found anything on mandarins having poisonous skin.

I know that I don't know very much about alot of this stuff, and sometimes I am misinformed, but this I am sure of. It isn't actually poisonious in the common, it is just a replent in the slim from the skin that makes fish deject them as a food source, or anything else that you put the slime on. They would get the fish in their mouth, and then spit the manderian back out. I read this in an artice from the Marine Hobbiest Magazine, I believe, it includes articals about fresh and salts.

actually they only have a poisonous mucus on them at night to protect themselves from getting eaten. I don't think you would have to worry about one killing a fish.

they both will produce a toxic slime if eaten or when caught in the net ..... only one to a tank unless it is a male and female or they will fight like H.E.double-toothpick I saw it happen once ....
