DEFINATELY NOT! Mandarins are very docile fish and will not be able to defend themselves!

I bought a bottle of live "tiggerpods" from my lfs. He also sold me a bag of cheato and claims that the pods will reproduce well in the cheato. My mandarin is always on the prowl and eating well so i guess there are plenty in the tank.

I love them, i got mine, two weeks or so ago, a bit early, but my rock had been in the dealers tanks for like a year, mine is crawling with pods. Mine also eats frozen mysis. I wanna getv a female, so I can have a mated pair, if i can, id like to figure out how to breed them, someone on here has a pair that lay eggs and the fry hatch

Thankyou! They both will eat the frozen food I feed as well as pods--I feed a variety of frozen foods - formula 1 & 2, mysis, brine plus, squid, and others- :happyfish :happyfish

I have wondered about Formula2. She seems to really like the back of the tank also. I know there are things on the glass that mine olde eyes can't see, but I'm sure there is algae there

I'll try a bit. Thank you.
(I mean I'll offer some to the fish)

It's a little Aqua fashion show!
"Next we see MyWay, she's chosen a coralline scheme today, with the slightest hint of lavender in the tail". ***)
How long have you had her, MyWay?

I would say she's been in my tank about a month. I originally wanted to do seahorses, so I purposely did not put any fish in the tank so my pod population would be good. (My fuge is full of pods also) Then I got an out break of red Flatworms, so when I found the Mandarin I jumped on it. She started eating within 2 minutes of being in the tank. I saw her eat a couple of the Flatworms, but I think she much prefers pods. I do notice however, it seems the Flatworm population is going down. My fingers are crossed for the eradication of the Flatworms. When I up grade my tank I might try to find her a boyfriend.

Here's is mine about a year. Can't remember exactly though. My photo skills stink, but here she is.

You definitely don't want to keep one with anything large enough to eat it. Otherwise, I think I heard that the mandarins have a slime that discourages other fish from bothering it. Note -- does not necessarily prevent it but does give them a chance with more aggressive tankmakes. I had one for a couple of years with a maroon clown with a bad attitude. Initially, the clown tried to harass it and the mandarin generally ignored it. Finally, it decided it had enough and clamped onto the clown's tail for maybe 15 seconds (clown towing him around doing all kinds of contortions). The clown didn't bother him much after that. So, regarding smaller aggressive fish -- maybe.
One word of caution -- it seems that everyone who posts on this discussion group knows of mandarins that take frozen or even dry food. Many do not EVER take anything but live pods (maybe some mandarins are tank raised and some wild caught -- don't know). So DO NOT get a mandarin if you do not have a well established tank that has had a stable pod population in it for a good long time.

So i guess the obvious question is how do you tell a male and female apart in this species, i have had mine for about 6 months in my 75 reef (been set up for 3 yrs) and would love to have a mated pair as i already have a breeding pair of cardinals, clowns, and watchman gobies. All of my pairs breed on a regular schedule, and i have posted about it on here before
