manderins

I was wondering how many people have manderins that eat frozen or prepared foods. I recently got thinking all it would eat are pods. Then I noticed it eating mysis. It seems to love it . I also see it eating pods too. I also read that some people have gotten them to even eat pellets.

Not many people have luck with getting mandarins to eat mysis. IMO people see these types of posts and get them thinking they will get one that eats mysis too and then the mandarin ends up starving.

My mandarin ate frozen at the lfs. I put him in my tank with alot of pods and he was happy with those but when they were gone he would not go back to frozen. I say they will only eat pods. The only way I would trust getting a mandarin to eat frozen is if your system has no pods in it and you see it eating frozen at the lfs and you keep it on frozen.

i dont disagree, but the reason for this post was to see if anybody else had luck with them eating a particular type of food or feeding them a certain way. I feel that we need to learn how certain types of animals feed how and what to expand this hobby. It was not that long ago people were saying that acropora corals were impossible to keep until we learned their needs. Also I dont think a manderin can thrive on pods alone maybe survive. anyway i feed mine mysis with a feeding station along with my seahorses. My experiance doing this has worked well but would be unsuitable in most tanks.
