How would I get it out without harming the rock? Pliers?

Why do you want to get rid of it Jen? It will look neat and soak up excess nitrates. You could always prune it ya know.
When did D&D come up in this thread? I attribute my extensive vocabulary to years of that game. Ahhh, fond memories. Fond memories indeed.

I guess it would be different if it was in the back of my tank. That sucker is almost dead center all the way in the front and I dont want it to be a distraction in the general scheme of things.

I tried to find out how to remove the mangrove, but the funny thing is that the only thing on the internet is how good they are for water chemistry.
If its not too much trouble, you may want to move that rock to where the mangrove is in the back of the tank. From a brief research stint, I have found that the root network of the mangrove is unparalleld in its ability to absorb ammonia, nitrites and nitrates.
The problem with removing the mangrove is that it utilizes root networks and runners. Miss just one small fragment of root and you are likely to have another mangrove appearing shortly. Maybe you can pull as much of it out as you can, then plug up the hole with a small rock or something.

How about moving the rock so the plant is more towards the back? But from the pic, looks like it may be too nice a rock to hide.
BTW, I also have 6 tats. More on the way.
