i bought a 10'' mangrove plant, i was in my sump but the two leaves turned brown, i moved it to the main tank, does the top have to be out of the water? or can it be fully sumerged

I believe so. But then I am no expert on mangroves.

The leaves should be out of water and the salt residue on the leaves rinsed off regularly. The more light the faster they grow. They need to be acclimated if there is a leaf on the plant already.
