I have also seen them break glass. Luckily, not my own. It was a guy I used to work with. He had it in a 5 gallon tank and the mantis cracked the tank.

I have a 5 inch Peacock Mantis in a 3/8 thick Acrylic Tank. From time to time he will walk up and take a few whacks at the side of the tank. It seems to be his way of telling me he is hungry. I have no doubts he could break glass.

i've had mine take a super tiny nick out of a glass 15 agl. but they have to be full grown really big to break glass i've heard. my peacock is about 6-6 1/2inches almost full grown so i'm moving her to a more roomy( and thicker glass) 55gal.

i was curious to see if they could break glass too so when i was in the florida keys i got me a large one (6 1/2") and put it in a empty snapple bottle with some ocean water. Sure enough after about a half hour it smashed a good crack and five minutes later was walking on the table, next to the bottle. I was amazed.

I've never seen it myself, but I've never heard of it happening in anything but the smaller tanks with really thin glass, but of course since a Mantis is usually in a species tank, you don't want them in their own 180gal...
