It is a very colorful and beautiful shrimp on the average about 3-4 inches long. They posess a spine they "

" small fish with and have a reputation for doing the same to aquarium glass- and sometimes breaking it. They have also been known to damage the aquariast's thumb if they get too close. Mainly cosidered a menace, they usually show up in live rock and make themselves known by rearranging LR and LS, eating smaller fish and shrimp, or the tell tale clicking after "lights out".

I had 2 hitchhike on some lr i got from swf.com.Royal pain getting them out.Dont bother with the trapes if you have one.Just find their home and take that rock out.I just crush the rock with a hammer till i find it then i celebrate with a cold one.....

I am building a 15 gal 5/8" Lexan tank I really dont know if it will be able to brake it or not. there are two difrent types of mantis theres slashers and bashers. I dont really want a slasher cause they will cut your thumb I want a basher they do have the force equil to a .22 just as long as no one taunts it with ther finger I dont think that it will break the tank. I hope

lexan is acrylic the strongest, almost bullet proof if im not mistaken. and 5/8" is extramly thick for just 15 gallons. ushally you would use just 3/16" thats what I built my fuge out of. and a 240 that im working on is out of 1/2" with a lexan bottom, its 8'x2'x2' finished dimenshions.

Are you sure that it is a mantis? It could be a pistol shrimp.
Mantis shrimp only snap when they hit something, a pistol can snap whenever. I had a little green pistol shrimp hitch hike into my tank, he is about 1/3 inch and his big snap claw is about the same size as his body.

There are many different species of mantis shrimp. Few are this powerful.
