Mantis shrimp are bad for a reef tank but many people keep them in species specific tanks. Great to watch. So if you catch it do not kill it throw it in your sump and ask around sure someone would want it. And if you want to ship i will take it.

Pistol shrimp are fine/friendly. Mantis are very bad if they're in with other fish. I heard the trick to getting them out is to find the rock they live in. Pull it out and dip it in fresh water. If any of you guys find 1, let me know. I'll take it.

Here's a qoute from another thread. I had it backwards... use a higher salinity mix:

Bristle worms still attached to the rock can be removed with a pair of needle-nosed pliers or tweezers. After removing the live rock from the bucket, you can then sort through the invertebrates in the bucket that you will want to add to your system, and discard all of the unwanted pests.

And yeah if you find him let me know. I got an empty tank sitting here and have always wanted a mantis.

Like everyone else is saying mantis are very bad but pistols are not. Mantis will attack or eat ANYTING else that is in the tank with them so you definately do not want one in a reef. They are so fast and often whip out your whole fish and invert population without ever being seen. But when kept alone they can be amazing to watch.
