Hey all,
Hope you'all had a good Xmas!!
I was checking my tank and found a 2'' mantis swimming around.... I didn't know I had one...it probably came with my LR....
Should I take him out of my tank? He is in my main tank (90 gal)??
Tks

what do you have in your tank. because honestly a 2 inch mantis isnt really gonna do any damage
besides the ocasional snail and hermit
if you can get a pic we could see how big/powerful its gonna get

If you leave him in your tank, you will eventually start to see your clean up crew dinimish and eventually possbly some livestock as well. If you want to identify the Mantis you have, do a google search for "Roy's List of Stomatopods." Good luck trying to remove it. Your best bet would be to find the piece of LR he is taking up residence in, take it out and flush him out.
Good Luck!!

Okay...I'm confused. Sounds like something you intentionally bought, or put in your tank. Are these things good or bad?

That would depend on what you want. You are not going to want one of these in a community tank. In a species only situation they really are pretty cool. There are some great video's on youtube.

They are very aggressive and not something that you want in your tank with others. They are very entertaining and awsome to watch in a tank by themselves.

Sepulation hit it on the head. My mantis has his own custom built acrylic tank which I call "the arena of death." They are fascinating to watch.

yeah, mantis keepers are like those nuts who have tarantulas, snakes and scorpions. They are kept in species tanks, and are mean little boogers.
