Marco Rocks

i recently purchased 20# of australian spaghetti rock from marco rocks....they came in and looked awesome and was a large amount.....4 of the rocks were red and looked like rust.....i put a magnet on them and the magnet stuck to it....i believe its iron on them???? is this ok for the tank??? i have them soaking in a rubbermaid container waiting to hear back from marco rocks.... any thoughts or ideas???? thanks

umm... i dont think that sounds right. i would hold off on adding that till you find out for sure though.

if a magnet sticks to your rock its not a good thing for SW tanks. it means it high in metals which will kil inverts in the tanks. I am not sure what kind of rock that you got but I would say its only good for FW or for your yard,
I can only find a few reveiws of marco rocks I am not real sure about the ausi speg rock though.
maybe someone else will chime in but the magnet thing doesnt wash with me.

Well, I'm glad I saw this...Small world, I have the exact same order on a UPS truck to my house today (20lbs Aussie Spaghetti Rock from Marco)...I was going to use it in my refugium on my 240...I will try the magnet when it gets here and let you know.

what kind of manget did you use? i jus tried this on some of the spaghetti rocks i have and the magnets didnt stick at all

i got in 9 rocks total...3 are tan and look nice and the other 6 are red...it looks exactly like rust....so i asked marco about it and they like laughed it off and said it could be iron....so i took half of my magnet glass cleaner and sure enough it stuck....i dont even want to put tan rock in my tank bc i dont want to risk ne thing...

Well I got mine today....Like yours, a lot of red on them, I took a magnet to all of them with no results....I cleaned em up really well and put all but 4 (like you I had 9) into my fuge, I may put the other 4 in the DT if all is well. I kind of like the rock, hopefully it won't lead to any issues.

I would send them back that just scary.Then call the credit card company and fight the charge.

i got in contact with marco rocks today..they were really cool about it all...they are goin to send me 10 more pounds and when that comes there will be paid shipping to ship back the rock that i think is bad.....so everything is well.....things worked itself out....
