I have a marine betta that I got on Friday. It's about 3 - 4 inches long. I have tried everything; krill, ghost shrimp, peppermint shrimp, and feeder fish. I don't know what else to do. I don't want $75 gone! Please help.

Hi,
Sorry to hear this...I know we told you to pass on getting this critter because they are hard to keep in captivity, and feeding the live food was the major reason. Is it still in the quarantine tank? Dim the lights and give it places to hide, maybe it won't feel so stressed. Did you see it eat at the fish store, maybe they can give you some pointers on how they fed it?

Yea It is still in the quarantine. I dimmed the lights earlier and I put a ghost shrimp in there.. And he still didnt eat it. Even feeder fish. So I don't really know what to do now. Oh and there is tons of hiding spots in the quarantine. Thank you Flower. Can anyone else help me?

Did you call the fish store to ask when was the last time it ate, and what they fed it?

Live mysis if u can find them. Online maybe. There small but sometimes something small is what it may take.def find out what it was eating. These are very difficult fish to get eating. I've had my eye on one at the lfs they've had it for almost a month now. So I know it's eating. But it can still b a tough fish to keep.

At the LFS that's how I choose a critter as well...if it is healthy for a while in the fish store, it's chances of survival is much better. A fish that just arrived is stressed already, and then within days it gets chased, netted and put into another plastic bag for transport again...

It could b pure stress. How's your water? No issues w its chemical balance?your not horrible on the time frame. W in 3-4 days of not eating. Was it housed w other fish at the store? If you can find live marine food. Not gold fish, guppies, ghost shrimp maybe. You want something u can leave in the tank and it will live. Betas are noctural by nature. If you can leave dinner in there all nite it may be gone come Morning

Peppermint shrimp???? That's a mighty costly diet. personally, if you can raise your own food for it...keep it, otherwise I would be finding a new home for it. JMO
