I miss the greenery of my freshwater tank and was wondering if there are any commonly available plants or algae that would help liven up with FOWLR tank?
Thanks
If you are talking fluorescents I'd have to say no.....most plants diet is strictly from light....I'd say Metal halides or a really good set of T5's at least
I have both, and I still can't get sw plants to live
i cant stop the halimedia from growing in my tank. About 3 weeks ago i got as much as I could see out of my tank and now its all back with a vengance. I have read that halimeda needs calcium and good lights to grow, but this stuff probably would grow in a dark box. Where you located? if your close, i could mail some to you.

Thank you so much for your offer Monsinour, thats very kind of you.Unfortunately I live in India... but too far isnt it?
I have been able to keep Mangroves, Shaving Brush Plant, Halimeda and several types of Caulerpa under PC lighting. I usually do 10K and 6500 bulbs.
In a fish only tank, it depends on your fish, some eat plants.
Look into macro algae as opposed to true vascular plants. Most macros will pretty much grow themselves and just require occasional pruning. We use macro extensively in most of our setups.

Lois,
There's a good chance that your water is too clean. Plants/macro uses NH3 (preferred), NO3, and PO4, so if your levels are near zero, they will tend to starve out.
