Does anyone use these as a sump for your s/w tank. How
would you rate it on a scale of 1 to 5?

For a beginner setup it is great...easy to use, everything is right there...once you get deeper into the hobby...it gets small quick...it does do what it is meant to do though and very efficiently as well.
I have the Tidepool I. I wished I had not spent the money on it and built my own sump instead...but didnt know at the time, what I know now.

Anyone have the Tidepool 2? I need to know which size Supreme Mag drive pump to use. The Tidepool 2 says it is for up to 600 gallons per hour flow rate....seems like a lot of people on this board like these pumps, but the Mag 7 will only pump about 400 gallons per hour at 6 feet, and the Mag 9 about 700 gallons at 6 feet. I don't only want 400 gallons per hour turnover for my new 90 gallon so I bought the Mag 9. Haven't hooked it up yet. I can't see why the flow rate is limited to 600 gallons per hour on the Tidepool 2. If I use a ball valve after the pump to slow it down a hair if needed will it damage the pump? What size pumps does everyone use on the Tidepool 2? Lesley

I have a Tidepool 2.....haven't hooked it up yet, but I think it will work very nicely for a fish only tank because fish create a lot of waste products, and the Tidepool has three hudge media drawers....never seen so much room for media in my life. I am going to fill one tray with Biochem Stars for extra wet/dry filtration, use one tray for the gravely type media....maybe Biochemzorb, or plain carbon, and a few little phosphate sponge rocks (will place all these in a large media bag), and in the top one I will place a couple layers of floss type media and maybe a microfine type filter pad. So nice that these have large pull out drawers that you don't have to stop the filter to change unless you want to. Then there is the biowheel....don't know if it is enough alone so I am using the Biochem stars for extra wet/dry filtration. I will let you know is a couple of weeks when it is set up what I think of it then. Lesley

Did you keep the biowheel in the tidepool or replace with
something else. I really appreciate all your suggestions!

I have a tidepool 1 with a magdrive 7 under my 44g tank, and a tidepool 2 with a magdrive 9.5 under my 75g tank.
As said above, for what they are, they work very well. Easy setup, easy to use, etc..
