How long have you had the pair? What are the water readings? Do you notice anything on either of them?

Has she been picking on him? It is not abnormal for the male to breath heavy or hide a little when the female is showing her dominance. Is he still eating normally?

When you feed tonight take a look at how he behaves. If he darts after the food then hides again it is likely because of her. My male breathes heavy at times. My female makes him hide in the corner when she wants to. He is perfectly healthy. Have you checked your water readings just to be sure? Make sure there is nothing on either of their bodies, or on any other fish.

If he is not eating then there is cause for concern. I have never used furan. I wouldn't recommend dosing anything until you know for sure what he has. Moving him to the QT is a good idea. My concern there is that he may change into a female if he is away from the other female. Maroons change quickly.
Did you check our water readings? Are you able to get a good look at him to see if there is anything at all on his body or by his gills?

It is a methylene blue treatment. You have never added this to your display right? Methylene blue will drop some parasites but it will also wipe out your biological filtration. You can move them both into the QT if you want. I don't know what the fish has though. His girl could be harassing the heck out of him, or there could be something more serious. Have you looked them over in the tank? They may be easier to see in the QT. I am concerned about you only moving the male. He may turn female and then they will not be able to be kept together without serious fighting. PM Bang guy. Tel him how long they have been together, and ask if the male could be separated. He would know that better than I do. That is the part that has me worried. It would ruin the pair.
