Maroon Clown Hosting a Brain?

Ok my maroon clown has started nestling in and on my new open brain coral. he seems very gentle but the coral still retracts a bit (not all the way)... Will the clowns nesting hurt it? I only have a 29g Bio so an anemone is kinda out...

It could. My clowns were gentle in the beginning with a Hammer and almost beat it to death within a few weeks. Once they get comfortable, they tend to get rougher with it, from my experience. I had to add an anemone to get my clowns to leave my corals alone (they hosted a few different things). Why do you think an anemone is out of the question? I have an RBTA in my 14G BioCube.

I was under the impression the stock lights in a biocube were not sufficient to keep an anemone alive... and that an anemone could wreck havok on my coral (few that I have)...

Mine is under stock lighting and is absolutely fine. Just keep it up top if you decide to have one. It could move around, luckily mine didn't, so I definitely understand you're fear with that, but lighting, it's enough. What's more important is water quality (of course it can't be in the dark, lol).

Speak of the devil, my ocellaris just started to host my open red brain! They have never hosted with anything before until now, why'd it have to be the brain when I have a torch with about 7 heads now. I guess they call them clowns for a reason.

Welp, my coral hasn't fully come out since the clowns cuddling started:( It doesn't look raw or damaged yet. I ordered a 4" RBTA that will be here in the morning... I figured I'd better get one now and let it settle in before my clown beats my brain to mush...

Your coral will thank you! Just try to keep your anemone in as much light as possible and all should be good. I have been feeding mine 2-3 a week and it seems to do better with that as well. Good luck

Thanks for the info! How do you feed it? Mysis in a baster? I was very pleased when it came in... I acclimated it for about 2 hrs then stuck it in... the little dude latched right on to my rock and started opening.. till the clown came and started suckling on its tentacles. It was...weird. lolz...

Anemone's should handle the beating more than the corals, it's just getting used to it. Don't worry too much, it'll open. It's still a new tank.

It needs acclimate, it'll be fine. They can take the beating.
