hey kids...
in setting up my tank, i have already picked out what fish i wish to house, one of them being a maroon clown. i wish to only have a fowlr, as i have no desire of corals or anemenoes (sp). is it possible that maroon may take host to a good fake anemenoe(sp)? i thought i saw a post somewhere by somebody whose maroon is content in a fake one. what do you think? might it work, or should i scratch mr maroon of the list?

you can have clown fish without a anemone to host. they are fine without one. personally i dont like the looks of all the fake anemones that i have seen. i think maroon clowns are a good choice. hth :)

maroons are bigger and meaner than most other clownfishes, so depending on what other fish you're keeping, they shouldn't need the protection of an anemone.

I had my maroon in a fish only tank without a anemone for a year and he's good with his damsels (blue, yellow tail, yellow) tank mates. I do have some calpura (misspelled) that he hosted.

I have a yellow tang and a maroon clown in the same tank and they are fine. They have been together for about 6 months with no trouble.

well, believe it or not, i found at my lfs (actually, to me disbelief, he mentioned this board for info.. go figure) a maroon hanging out in a long tentacled anemenoe (sp) that doesnt require halides or pc. i told him what i have, and he said just try to keep it near the top, so when i build up my lr, im going to try to make a crevice uptop and hope the anemenoe finds it. i also done picked me up a copy of the "conceintious marine aquariest" (please excuse my spelling... not feeling good today).
