they are very aggressive but that is one of the pet shops(like most) which cares nothing about the continued good health of the fish but just wants the profit.

My LFS has one in a 55. Very aggressive. Eats inverts, best friend is a blue devil (that should be a red flag). The young kids that work there hate him because he bites them when they put their hands in to retrieve inverts to sell. He also drags the anemome around if he doesnt like the location. Now thats a fish with an attitude!

I have a four inch Gold Stripe Maroon. I would say that it is a peaceful, but very active fish if kept without an anemone. I have lost a couple of anemones, so I have been able to see the difference between my clown with or without an anemone.
I have never seen it attack or bite any other fish, but it does have a knack for picking up small pieces of live rock and rearranging my tank. It is constantly fanning my sand bottom all the way down to the glass. But it is a peaceful fish.

my maroon gets along with everyone. i even have him in with a percula. my maroon stays with his bta and chases anyone away that comes near it, except for my coral beauty angel. but i think every fish has different personalities. i have no problem with mine even before i got a bta he didn't bother anyone else.

Don't you just love it when a lfs owner gives out false information on their stock ? All they care about is making money and will do anything just to get it out of his store.

We have a local fish store that if you buy a fish he keeps the info in his head and later you try to buy a fish that won't work or they will fight to the death he will not sell the fish to you no matter what. A lot of people don't like that but I do. Everyone that come in his store he can tell you what they have and the size of there aquarium. I asked him about why he dosent just sell them whatever they want and he said that there is no sense in selling people fish that aren't going to get along. If does sell the people the fish 90% of the time they get mad at him if they fight and one dies. So he's in a lose lose situation.

I'm sorry. I wasn't referring to all LFS owners but there are some out there that can mis-inform the consumer about the compatibilty, tank size requirement, etc ... Just my thought on this matter.
I'll give you one example of a local fish store owner misinforming the consumer. One day I asked about what one other fish I can add to a future 38 G tank. I told him I was planning to stock a O. Clownfish, Coral Beauty Angelfish, and a Yellowtail Damselfish. He told me a Yellow Tang will be a nice addition. I had already knew the compatibilty of fishes and minimum tank requirement of species of fishes. I knew the damsel isn't a good addition and I definitely knew the Yellow Tang is not recommened in a small tank. Yellow Tangs need at least 55 gallons or larger otherwise they will stress and die in small tanks. He never even told me not to add the damsel in it; even though they do get very territorial as they older.
I'm not looking to start a 38 G tank at all but was at the time going 4 months ago before I did more reading and researching on setting up a Marine Aquarium.

agressiveness, just like many factors in this hobby, is relative. compared to most triggers, maroon clowns are docile. compared to a watchman goby, a maroon clown can be pretty nasty.

Mine is calm and collected, does alot of fanning his/her tail in the corner (has about a 3 inch area cleared of all sand) and seems to be alittle timid around the 2 damsels that are in the tank with him. Leaves the coral and inverts alone, and spends quite abit of time in among (under) the rock. Oh and by the way, it's a 75 gallon tank.

Maroon's are usually nice and peacefull. BUT, When you add other clowns to the aquarium you will then see the "aggressive" side. I mean I wouldnt throw a maroon in with 6 other fish in a 30 gallon or anything. They are pretty teritorial fish, they dont like others getting near there "house" BTA.
