how did u acclimate him? and for how long?
starfish are very sensitive to environmental changes, if he was acclimated incorrectly, he may be experiencing osmotic shock which will kill him.

Minimum acclimation time for seastars is 6-8 hours, more is better. They can slowly die over a period of 6+ months from osmotic shock.

 i did what my lfs told me to do they gave this paper on how to acclimate them its says to float bag in the tabk for 10 min then after 10 min to add 10% of bag volume out of my tank then wait another 10 min then add another 10% of my tank water and wait another 10 min then put the fish in with out adding the water in the bag.my next thing is if thats not right then why do they give that out when you buy a starfish this is my 1st tank and do not want my starfish do die.now hes on a rock and kind of wraped around it i hope he will be ok.

good luck to you, but that acclimation is probably for fish only (and i still wouldnt use it). drip acclimating is the most affective method.

Do a lot of research before you buy any Starfish.
Some Can't even be taken out of the water EVER! NOT FOR A SECOND! So you have to take special Precautions to NOT expose it to Air.
Also acclimation time is Min 6-8 Hours drip.
You need a whole Acclimation setup for these guys since they will be in there for a while.
I setup a Black 5 Gallon bucket, with a Small 25 watt heater (set to same temp as tank of couse) and an air pump with an air stone set up under the heater for water movement.
So far this has given me the best results. I have 8 star fish.
As a side note, Don't Acclimate more than one star fish together, unless they are the same. I found that out the hard way when I noticed my Sand sifter chomping on my poor little brown tipped.
Anyway Good luck!
If I were you I'd go back to your LFS and demand another one and tell them they should change thier directions for Starfish.

it will get like a white layer to it and start to dissinergrate.
This only takes a day or so. If its one whole pieces it's still alive.

very sorry for your loss rich. the good thing is you found this board and there are alot of people here that can help you out. the one thing of advise i can give is research every species you are considering to put in your tank. with that you should be able to make a good decision on buying, acclimation, and keeping up with the animal. lfs are so hard to believe about anything. i hear something different every time im in one. good luck with your future tankmates.

Sorry for your loose...trust me we have all learned things the hard way in this hobby.
Like i said in another post..just something to think about in the future...
Is I learned...Don't acclimate more than one starfish together..
I lost a little brown tipped star that got chomped on by a sand sifter....It was only larger than a half dollar...
