Hello,
I am a newbe to SW and now moved into the research stage.
Little info:
Tank has been running for 3 months
215 gal
280lbs of LR from an established 8 year old tank
200lbs of LS
60 hermits
6 turbo
6 astrea
5 peppermint
2 chromis
2 emerald
Well I want to get a mated pair of gold band maroon.

I am finding it a little diffcult to find but time is not a problem.
Has anyone had any luck with a mated pair.

I do know they are pretty mean.
Any info you can share would be appreciated.

purchase three and put them in the tank. Two of them will gang up on the other and probably kill it. Normally this results in a mated pair because clowns are sexually diamorphic and the larger will normally become the female and the smaller the male. She will pick on him alot. BTAs should be added as well.

put them in the nestin thingy that hangs on the top of the tank for about 1 to two weeks by them selves but right next to each other then do it in the same nest together if anything they will pair up
remember one big one small one you dont want any chance of a huge fight breaking out the small one should just give up domiance in no time

I have seen them on fish store web sites, I am thinking the cost was between $89.00 to $120.00. I got lucky and got a pair at my local fish store paid $89.99 for them. They had been living in a tank for two years before I got them so they doing good.
This is the male and their anemone.

i would suggest finding a place that sells them as an already existing pair. this will reduce the amount of fish which must be "sacraficed" in order to find te female a sutible mate.

hmm i had my first maroon for about a year and i always wanted a mated pair. One day i was at LFS and there was a baby maroon for 12 bucks. I said why not try it and mate them myself. Well 3 days later i caught them shareing the same anenome and they are always togther since. I have had them as a pair for about 1 1/2 yrs now. the older bigger one which is the female is about 3 yrs old. they live in a BTA that loves to split. I currently have 7 BTA's and have already sold 6 of them, seems eveytime i sell one another one splits.

Cool. I want your next BTA.

Is that sand purple? I like a lot and if my wife sees it she will make me get it!!! Purple is her favorite color.

yes my sand is one of a kind, i have never seen anyone else on the boards have it. it is a mixture of blue and salmon marine sand made from estes. under the metal halids it makes it look purple. it is fully alive also and never looks dirty.

I found a pair at my LFS for 35.99, that I didn't know how good of a deal it was at the time. Love my two clowns and they are anything but mean to the other fish I have in the tank.
