Mated Pairs

Right now we have three pacisso clowns... all three were bough when they were young... I'd say we have have them for about 5 months now. Two of them have become noticably bigger than the third one... so is it the littlest will be the male? Also, they do tend to pick on and bite at each other... is there anything to make the process happen faster? Lol. Also, can you buy mated pairs other than clownfish? Thanks for the help!

Well in the clownfish family the biggest clownfish in a group will become female all the others are male when the female dies the next biggest will take her place as female and that will continue.
(all clownfish are born males coral gobies are the opposite)

You can buy already mated pairs, but they're usually expensive. Get that third clown out, as the larger two form a mating pair, they will get aggressive towards the third.
Clowns are not the only mated pairs. Some gobies, blennies, jawfish, cardinalfish, etc also mate in the home aquarium and form pairs.

I kept 5 clowns together and they were not a problem. They would all host together sometime, other times they would host individual corals. However, I never had a problem with them in general with aggression towards each other. Me on the other hand was a different thing. They all would attack me when I went in to clean. It got so annoying that I decided to fish them out. However, for pretty much just over a year, they played nice with each other.
I have always been told that it couldn't be done, I tried it and it was successful in my tank.
I would think that if they were establishing order, that after 5 months they would have sorted all that out. As you already may know, each fish is different and some are more temperamental then others even from the same spawn.
Basically what I'm saying is don't get down on the situation you are in. Maybe you have to go to a bigger school for them to settle down. I never had the stage of 3 I had 2 then jumped to 5. The new clowns went right up to the old clowns and they were like long lost relatives. Try moving the rocks around also so that they have to re-establish territory.
I think I have a video of them all hanging out ill have to search for it.

Here it is.... This was during a period where 3 were hosting a frogspawn and the other 2 were hosting a torch.

It might be because you often post incorrect information. BTLDreef probably feels it's a civic duty to post a second opinion.
Well there's that. And Rainbow, I'm not stalking your posts, I often reply to posts that have zero or very few replies to them. A person should be given as much information as possible, and not just take one persons word for it. For what it's worth, your post wasn't completely correct.
