hello to all who open this tread!
my tank is roughly a month old give or take a few days probally a little older then a month is the tank mature or give it some more time?
its done testing and it contains a domino damsel and 2 clowns.
i want to put in a yelllow tang... before the tang police come in here and eat me alive.. lol

i want them to know this i am up grading to a new tank probally by then end of the year to a 55 OR BIGGER like a 100 or someting around that.
my tank is currently a 30 gallon
I have seen a tang in a 20 gallon
one more question could you put a tang in a tak that is a LONG tank since it has more
room for them to swim around in cus or surface area
habd how much is a good price for a 55 gal tank long with nothing.

Bill, I'm not a tang police, and I, in fact, don't even like tang police, but in all honesty, a 55 will be miserable for a yellow tang. A 100 is still too small. Also, tangs should be left to hobbyists with a good deal of experience. Tangs need to be the last fish added, not the first.
If you go to 150, and get pretty proficient in their care and upkeep, you'll be ready. Most folks are in this hobby for a very long time, so don't get impatient.

yep but why does it say in some sights aobut tangs that they are /can be a beginners fish it wouldnt be the first fish but still i know what you are saying
for the big tanks w/ tangs is it a must or a need
or is it for the tang in his prespective from having him be happy or misreble.
i havent looked into tang much just an hour last night but nothin to to much

in several months, its gunna be a must. if you bought him small, then you would be OK for a few months, but whats the sense in buying him if your not gunna provide him with everything he needs, and your not gunna keep him for his entire life?

your tank isnt stable/mature yet. are you sure your tank cycled? i hope your not planning on adding another fish to an uncycled tank.

not true i had a friend that had a yellow tang in 45 gallon and it lived there for 3 years its still there it is healthy and very happy, i also have a yellow tang in my 55 gallon he is healthy and seems to be happy it depends on who you ask for what the minimum tank for a yellow tang. 150 is for the minimum size for MORE THEN 1 TANG. but like i said it depends on your opinion, your aquscaping in tank, your expirence, and the personality of the tang it's self.

no my tank is cycled i have figured out that it really isnt right but its been set up for a month PLUS so its cycled and there is no trace of ammonia. so when does a tank become mature 3-4 months or earlier or later??

Im glad that you and your friend both have had luck keeping tangs in tanks that are smaller then reccommended, but your the exception to the rule. Opinion has nothing to do with it, nor the personality of the tang. Experience does, but unfortunatly experience points to it not being a good idea.

If you already have the "100 or something like that" tank cycling, then sure. Start growing the YT.
If the 100 or something tank is not a reality, buy fish that will thrive in your current system.
If you have a two bedroom house, how many folks do you want living there. It is the same idea. Common sense.

they need alot of swimming room my friend and i reduced the amount of fish in the tank also so the tangs would be more confortable i and him under stocked the tank there's a yellow tang, royal gramma, and a percula clown fish in my 55 and if you use the 2 inches of fish per gallon rule my tank has an extra 27 gallons worth of fish left in my tank which i have given to my yellow tang to swim around in and be happy. he was much less catious and he went to the limit but he is very expirenced and has the some of the best equipment. and yes i my tang has grown i got him at 3 inches he is now over 6 inches, but it is hard to tell what the minimum size tank for a tang is because i have seen many websites saying that the minimum size tank for a yellow tang go from 45-125 gallons it depends on your expirence and your opinion ,which source you trust to get it right the less the expirence the bigger the tank for the tang. i have been into saltwater fish for 4 years now and in all the time i figured out that this hobby is made successful by trial and error a little bit of luck and expirence helps too, as everyone here knows. all fish have personalities i have seen 2 clowns in my tank act very differently one was happy and contented the other was nervous and twichy so i moved him in the 55 gallon and got another clown to go with the other i left in my 30 gallon breeder tank. i perfer to under stock my tanks by choice to give them the most room possible and to stop aggessive behaviors. my friend is the other way he's always pushing the envelop so far he's been lucky though. please no one follow his example, it could lead to money wasted and hard work lost for nothing.

Whoahoho there buddy! 2" of fish per gallon is a heck of a lot! For saltwater the general guideline (for bioload) is 1" of fish per 5 gallons.

yeah 2" of fish per gallon is waaay over. Im thinking he meant 1" per 2 gallons and it was just a typo, but even then that is pushing it.
