Maxi Jet Mod

I have heard everyone talking about these Maxi Jet mods, well i was at the LFS bought one and....
It awesome, now i can stop saving for a koralia or tunze.. why waste the money for minimal increase in performance.
The guy at the LFS had a Koralia4 and a maxi jet 1200 mod in the same tank and let me mess with them both.. they were pretty much identical in water movement.
The maxi jet had a bit of a hum. thats the only downfall i found and the fans on my lights drown that out.
This is a pointless thread. I just dig the maxi mod!

Yeah i bought the 1600 for my mj400 and i love it. I have seen alot of threads about people complaining they run backwards after start up, but i don't turn off my powerheads ever (not even for feeding) so i don't have that problem. My only complaint is the sure grip magnet 50. I thought i was buying the one like on the koralia's but it isn't. So it makes positioning it limited. I have it pointed pretty much the only way i can right now which blows right at my syphon line and pretty much prevents it from picking up stuff out of the water as its blown by. But im sure after some readjusting after my overflow box gets here tomorrow it will be ok.

yeah i have heard about them running backwards and i also rarely turn them off. So I have yet to encounter the problem.
I used the maxi jet bracket, not a magnet. I can get pretty much any angle i want. Had to super glue the 2 brackets together but works very well.

Rather than start a new thread about the maxi mod - I will ask it here!!!
I am searching for a mod to my 1200's.....but I see 3 different kinds of maxi mods -
GULF STREAM II HIGH FLOW MODIFICATION KIT
Eco Systems Eco Mod 1200
Sure Flow 1600
Now this is where my problem comes in to play.....I will have them (2) on a "wave" timer, each running for 1 hour, then the other turns on for an hour. Is one mod better than another for this application??
Lastly, I see there are magnets and 4 suction cup brackets - do the suction cups actually hold??

none of them will work on a wave maker. they tend to reverse rotate when turned on and off. the sure flows have a little tab that the propeller hits to keep it from reverse rotating but they destroy the blades and every time it starts you hear a loud "zzzzeerrrpp". i had mine on for 10 minutes before i had to take them off the maxi's connected to the wave maker.
if you really wanted to use modded maxijets on a wavemaker you need to get a seio wavemaker which does not actually turn the powerheads off, just slows them to about 30% power when "off" and ramps them back up to 100% when activated.

yup. its not so much the time as it is the fact that they are off. its when they start up, so whether its 15 seconds or 4 days they're still starting back up.

Is seio the only "wavemaker" that uses the 30%???
Is one of the kits better than another?
"GULF STREAM II HIGH FLOW MODIFICATION KIT
Eco Systems Eco Mod 1200
Sure Flow 1600 "
I also have been reading that the 2 outlet unit ramps up to 100% at the same time.....not one side then the other. But then again, thats how the ocean works, HA HA

the seio isn't the only one, but i think its the only one that uses a standard 3 prong outlet to power the pumps instead of some funky connection. the only kit i can vouch for is the sureflow, i really like it, just not on the wave maker. the other kits will either reverse rotate or hit an anti-rotate tab like the sureflow, the problem is the same on each one.

also, as to the noise of the Sureflow, when you use the white propeller on the MJ1200, it is silent. Plus it gives you 2100 gph rather than 1600gph.
The black prop is noisy on a MJ1200 and is meant for the smaller MJ powerheads.
But I feel that the sureflow is the best and it seems to be the general consensus. Plus the company, algae free, has pretty good customer service from what Ive heard.

Should I go with Sea-Flo or SureFlow?? I am wanting to order tomorrow night.....
Also, what other wavemakers are out there that don't completely turn off a pump when another is running??

sure flow. the have the anit reverse for the prop....
and the seio controller only says to use with there pumps.

From what I can see, they all have the anti reverse props.
Seio controllers say it to cover themselves.....I have sen 100's of threads with them working with MJ's.
