maxi-jet skimmer pump?

i picked up a protein skimmer rated for 90 gallons that didnt have a pump. i was told i could use a maxi-jet 1200 and it would work fine. i have a MJ 900 laying around and figured i would try to get it to work. I am having no luck in figuring out how i would hook it up. any suggestions?
I can hook an airline up to the powerhead, but its on the output side. i cant seem to hook up the airline to the input side.
I am really afraid its going to be something simple i am just not seeing, and then i get to feel like a dummy.

ummmm what kind of skimmer? my remora c skimmer uses maxijet 1200 also. there was a pvc tube that comes out of the skimmer and you attach the pump to that and secure it. but with out knowing what skimmer u have its hard to say
