Maxijet powerheads

I have a maxi jet 900 submersible pump and every so often (every 2-3 min) it blows small bubbles like one larger bubble found its way to the impeller and got broken up on its way out. It has been doing it for a while.... recently I pulled the filter out to rinse and noticed that the pump had developed a "resivoir" of air that when tilted the right direction, came out. What causes this air build up on a submerged pump/filter??? Anyone having this problem this bugs the crap out of me..

I have the same problem. When my MJ600 started it, it failed shortly after. I bought a new impeller and it works but still blows air bubles. On both of my pumps the suction cups are worn so only one suction cup is basically holding each one on. And after reading what you have said I can now see the problem. I bet the air builds up from maybe micro bubbles and once large enought it spits them all out. I dont know but like you it drives me crazy.

Sounds like you have the PH too close to the surface, move it down an inch or so. The only way it can blow bubbles is if it's sucking air. Sometimes the current will create a little whirlpool and this will suck air down into the stream

Tap it a few times after it's submerged and running. That will move the air around and hopefully get it all out/

The only way microbubbles can come out of your powerhead is if there is air either trapped in there or being sucked in from some location. As I noted before, if you tap on the powerhead a bit after it's submerged and running, trapped air should move around and escape. Otherwise, if you still get microbubbles, it's getting air from somewhere. Is there any chance that anything (such as a return hose or HOB overflow, or even your top offs) is pouring water in or around the general vicinity of your PH? Bubbles from one of those sources could go into the PH and get trapped that way, in which case you should look into moving things around to avoid it. Keep in mind, though, that bubbles coming out means that somehow air is getting in. Hope that helps.

The bubbles come from the accumulation of the micro bubbles in your tank. Also, the dirtier the PH on the inside, the more the bubbles accumulate. I had a PH that was in the direct flow of my return which had a few micro bubbles. It would accumulate and then spit them out. I moved the PH and it stopped doing it. Every 2-3 minutes seems extreme. I would clean it out and try to place it lower and out of any direct return current.
