i had my tank running 3 months when i added my first crocea. its suggested you wait 8 months to a year though. all clams SHOULD have at least a tank that has matured 8 months. and yea, i know im contradicting myself.

OK, so you pushed the envelope a little, that's cool, are the clams OK, or did you lose them? Years back I lost them from lack of light, now I have more light than I know what to do with.

nope, hes doing awesome. ive also got a maxima i added about 6 months in and a squamosa i added about 5 months in. the maxima and crocea are doing awesome, the squamosa i recently sold because he outgrew my tank.

Great! In your exp, what has been most beneficial factor for the maxima's thriving, light, water movement, etc?

excellent water quality. zeros across the board, 430 calcium, 9dkh, 1300 mag, 8.3 pH
lighting, 250w MH over a 30 gallon
and my water flow has always been good. not amazing (until recently) but good.
how olds your tank? whats the set up like, whats your parameters?

at present, 45 gallon reef set up we're still wrestling with as it's in early stage ( 3 months )
40 breeder fish only with LR and crushed coral (6 months)
40 breeder black sand and not even full of water yet
30 gallon live sand/LR just cycled no livestock yet
15 " " " " " " " " "
20 long cycled QT tank
20 long MT tank
all water tests for all tanks constantly monitored every day
0.25 rise in ammonia once a week in the 45 reef, 5 gal water change as a result 2 to 3 times a week.....the rest of the tanks are perfect parameterwise across the board
I was going to set up the 40 gallon fish only tank as a sps/clam tank, you know hang the pendant and move the fish to the 30

lol, maybe ill drop by again some time.
really depends. ive never spot fed any of my clams and ive had them as small as 2" and they've grown considerably since then.
if you do spot feed, dont squirt any food directly at the clam, you can clog his gills and he'll die. you either add something like DT's oyster eggs directly to the tank in front of a powerhead or pump and let it disperse throughout the tank, or you take the clam out and feed him in a bowl. take a bowl or cup, fill it with tank water and put the clam in. drop in a drop or two of whatever your feeding (again, not directly into his siphon) and leave him for like 30mins-1hour. you should see the water become clean, for him siphoning the food out of the water. then you can put him back in the tank.
